Launching Reading Wine
This month, a question I have carried for twenty years finally became a book I could hold in my hands. Reading Wine began in classrooms across Europe and Asia, where I watched knowledgeable students struggle to bring everything together once the glass arrived. They knew the grapes, the regions, the vintages. What they lacked was a way to make sense of it all. I first explored the idea in a magazine series in 2017, and nine more years of teaching, tasting, and listening gradually turned that early framework into this book.
Its idea is simple: knowing a wine and reading one are not the same thing. Style asks what kind of wine this is. Quality asks how well it has succeeded. We confuse the two constantly, and that is where most misjudgement begins. Learn to separate them, and a wine becomes legible. You can place it, judge it fairly on its own terms, and understand why it became what it is.
It is written for students, professionals, and any wine lover who wants to think more clearly with what they already know. Not more facts, but a way to make sense of the ones you have, and to drink with more confidence and more pleasure.
Reading Wine is available now on Amazon, with a Kindle edition to follow.
